The first participants in WPPI Energy's GreenMax Home initiative just moved into their new home, but it isn't any ordinary residence. Homeowners Tom and Verona Chambers built an all-electric, NZEH - a home with the potential to produce as much energy as it uses.
The Black River Falls couple designed and constructed the first owner-inhabited NZEH in the region that can be reasonably and affordably replicated in a cold climate. Through careful planning and consideration, the Chambers worked to refine their home's design to control energy use, ultimately advancing the status of their home from "highly efficient" to "net zero."
Now that the Chambers have moved into their NZEH, they will
work with WPPI Energy to monitor and fine-tune their energy
use and behavior to ensure they will meet their net zero energy goal - one of several aspects that make this project unique. Now and into the future, the Chambers will share their experiences with others in order to educate the general public about home energy use and improve awareness about the societal and environmental impacts of lifestyle choices.
WPPI Energy applauds the Chambers for their commitment to renewable energy, energy conservation and energy efficiency. Their new home will serve as a model for the future of "green" home design.
